Several Meetup groups, such as Python and Code for America, have project or hack nights. These are unstructured events that usually begin with folks having an opportunity to mention what they are working on towards potentially collaborating with others. We have tried this format out a couple times, and it has worked well. For the kick-off event tables were designated by topic such as healthcare, education, crime, clean energy, transportation, et al. Please note the below room layout is from our kick-off event, and is meant to serve as an example. Our second project night included one table working on an online contest, and another table spent time scoping out problems across the board.
